Dorothy Douglass Leidig 1912 - 2008 Lawrence
A music recital for Dorothy Douglass Leidig, 95, Lawrence, will be in the spring at Bales Organ Recital Hall at Kansas University. There will be no funeral or memorial services in accordance with her wishes.Mrs. Leidig died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.She was born Dec. 9, 1912, in Kansas City, Mo. She graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City in 1930. She attended Kansas City Junior College and Horner Institute. She received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Kansas University. She lived in Lenora for 39 years and Hays for 20 years. She moved to Lawrence in 1983.In the 1950s Mrs. Leidig supervised five counties of volunteer activity for the American Cancer Society and was active in the Social Action Committee of the Congregational Church. She served on the executive board of the High Plains Mental Health Center in Hays and the board of the Exchange Bank of Lenora.She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, American Guild of Organists, PEO Sisterhood, KU Alumni Association, Gamma Phi Beta sorority and Lawrence Music Club. She was a patroness of Sigma Alpha Iota, and was a member of Tennola Club and various local charitable organizations.Mrs. Leidig enjoyed painting, languages, traveling the world, flying a small private airplane and classical music, especially pipe organ and piano.She married Karl Leidig, of Lenora, in 1934. He died in 1983.Mrs. Leidig was also preceded in death by her parents, Metta and Thomas L. Douglass; a sister, Winifred Alton; and her companion, William Noud.Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Gridley and her husband, Roy, Lawrence; two grandsons, Karl Gridley and Mark Gridley; a sister, May Fallman, Lexington, Mo.; two nephews and their families; a cousin, Robert M.
