Allen Vick

Memorial services for Allen Vick, 88, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Lawrence.Mr. Vick died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at Brandon Woods Retirement Center in Lawrence.He was born Nov. 23, 1919, in rural Baldwin City, the son of William Edward and Lota Fern Perkins Vick. He graduated from Baldwin High School in 1938 and attended Kansas State University for a year before going to photography school in Topeka in 1940.Mr. Vick entered the military in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a member of the 5th Photo Group and 12th Photo Reconnaissance Group. He served in England, North Africa and Italy.He and his wife owned and operated Vick Studio in Burlington from 1946 to 1961, in Lawrence from 1961 to 1977 and in the Baldwin City area from 1977 to the late 1990s.Mr. Vick was a member of First United Methodist Church in Burlington, Baldwin City and Lawrence. He was an active member of Methodist Men in all three cities. He was also a member of the Professional Photography Association, Lions Club in Burlington and many square dance groups.He married Etta “Elaine” Leonard on Nov. 11, 1945, in Baldwin City. She died in May 2007.Survivors include a son, Kevan and wife Gail, Lawrence; two daughters, Shari Raybern and husband Don, Lawrence, and Ardith Meadows, Topeka; 11 grandchildren, Ryan, Colby and Hannah Vick, Jennifer and Kelli Raybern, Jon and Aaron Meadows, Maria Wikle, Nicole Brundage and Kristina and Nikolas Rasmussen; four great-grandchildren, Raven, Kaylyn, A’santi and Caden; and many stepgreat-grandchildren.Mr. Vick was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynette Rasmussen; a brother, Howard; and a sister, Marian.The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church in Lawrence or the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association in Topeka, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at www.warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Vick.
