Stewart Whitney Monroe

Visitation services for Stewart Whitney Monroe, 55, Lawrence, will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Mr. Monroe requested there be no service. Private burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.Mr. Monroe died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka.He was born Dec. 1, 1952, in Lawrence, the son of Waldo “Bud” and Katherine Stewart Monroe. He attended Lawrence public schools and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1971. He graduated from Wichita State University with degrees in Law and Criminal Justice.Mr. Monroe worked as a juvenile officer. He also worked as a deputy sheriff in Douglas County and in New Orleans. He played football for the San Jose Padres.Survivors include two daughters, Katria A. Monroe, New Orleans, and Camille Olum, Wichita; a son, Kristopher-Cole Monroe, Dallas, Texas; a sister, Walda K. Monroe, of the home; two uncles, Gary Stewart, San Francisco, and Leonard Monroe, Lawrence; an aunt, Mary Winborn, Detroit; five nephews; six nieces; and many relatives and friends.The family suggests memorials to a charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at www.warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Monroe.
