Gene David Platt 1941 - 2008 Roeland Park
Funeral services for Gene David Platt, 66, Roeland Park, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Mission. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Holy Angels Cemetery in Garnett.Mr. Platt died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at the family farm in Richmond.He was born May 12, 1941, in Richmond, the son of Lonnie Joseph and Mary Ann Setter Platt. He attended Prairie View and Tapley Grade School and graduated from Richmond High School in 1959.Mr. Platt served in the Kansas U.S. Army National Guard in 1964 and was levied for a tour in Vietnam in 1968, where he served from February to August of 1969.He worked in the mail and baggage department for Kansas City Terminal Railway for 12 years. He then worked as a conductor for Union Pacific Railroad for more than 30 years and retired May 31, 2003. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.He married JoAnne Katzer on Sept. 3, 1962, in Garnett. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include four sons, David, Lawrence, Sean, Overland Park, Ryan, San Antonio, and Tim, Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Edward J., Ottawa, and Emery L., Garnett; a sister, Mary Ann Hermann, Garnett; and 10 grandchildren.Mr. Platt was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Bridget Elizabeth Platt, in 1965.The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the church, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday.The family suggests memorials to Willa Gill Food Kitchen or Bishop Miege High School.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="http://www.feuerbornfuneral.com">www.feuerbornfuneral.com</a>.
