Raymond Lynch 1928 - 2008 Lawrence
Mass of Christian Burial for Raymond Lynch, 79, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lawrence.Mr. Lynch died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2007, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. He was born May 28, 1928, in Atchison, the son of Edward and Glenadeane Whalen Lynch. He graduated from Maur Hill High School in Atchison and attended St. Benedict's College in Atchison. He lived in Everest for 40 years before he moved to Lawrence.Mr. Lynch served in the U.S. Army for three years, including one year in Tokyo after World War II. He was employed at Midwest Solvents and Carl's Market in Atchison. He owned and operated Ray Lynch Market in Everest and retired in 1998. He was active in a variety of civic organizations including the Everest Chamber of Commerce, Knights of Columbus and Everest Historical Society, and was a charter member of the Everest Lions Club. He served as mayor of Everest and was a member of the City Council. He was a member of the St. Joseph Parish in Everest and St. Mary's Parish in Purcell. In Lawrence, he was active in the Lawrence Breakfast Optimist Club, American Legion, Meals on Wheels and served as an usher for the Lied Performing Arts Center for many years. Mr. Lynch was also a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and visited more than 20 countries in Asia, Europe, North America and all 50 states during their marriage. He was an avid Jayhawk fan and also enjoyed crossword puzzles.He married Betty Price on June 2, 1951, in Atchison. They shared 57 years of marriage. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include three daughters, Helen Bugh and husband John, Raytown, Mo., Mary Matthews and husband Rob, Lawrence, and Lori Bryan and husband Gary, Kansas City, Mo.; three sons, Christopher and wife Melodie, Raleigh, N.C., Eric and wife Kara, Lawrence, and Patrick and wife Sara, Raytown, Mo.; and grandchildren Trey, Alex, Liz, Amy, Karen, Mike, Joe, Luke, Nick, Ben, Chelsey, Price, Aubree, James, Grace and Kate.A rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
