Norman S. Edmonds

Memorial services for Norman S. Edmonds, 90, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Inurnment will follow at the McLouth Cemetery in McLouth.Mr. Edmonds died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2008, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.He was born July 19, 1917, in McLouth, the son of Joe and Mabel Swain Edmonds. He was a graduate of Kansas University, with a degree in business administration.Following his graduation from KU, he took over the family business, Edmonds Grocery and Frozen Food Lockers. He retired in the 1970s.Mr. Edmonds served on the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission and the Lawrence school board. He enjoyed playing golf, and achieved three holes-in-one during his lifetime. He was a charter member of the Lawrence Country Club.He married Wanda Branham on Sept. 8, 1940, in Independence, Mo. She preceded him in death on May 24, 2005.Survivors include three sons, Steve and wife Chris, Joe and wife Liz, all of Lawrence, and Mark and partner Dwight Duncan, Escondido, Calif.; five grandchildren, Jason, Lindsey, Allison and Adam Edmonds and Brynn Edmonds Burns; and five great-grandchildren.The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the mortuary.The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Association, sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at www.warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Edmonds.
