Dr. Marion E. “Doc” Martin

Funeral services for Dr. Marion E. “Doc” Martin, 82, of McPherson, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Friends Church in Argonia. Burial will follow in Argonia Cemetery, with full military honors by a U.S. Army detachment from Fort Riley.Dr. Martin died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at Lakeside Home Plus in McPherson. He was born on July 31, 1925 in Argonia, the son of Ellis James and Melda Dion Shuster Martin. He graduated from Argonia High School in 1943. He received a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Kansas State University in 1953.He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with Company K, 222nd Infantry Regiment, 42nd Rainbow Division in Germany. After the war he served in Army occupation in Vienna, Austria. Dr. Martin was a dairy veterinarian and beef rancher in Boscobel, Wis., for 50 years before returning to Kansas. He served for 12 years on the Wisconsin Veterinary Examining Board. He was a Grant County Commissioner for more than 30 years, including 28 years of the chairman of the social services committee and four years as chairman of finance committee.He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.He married Virginia Bornholdt on June 1, 1947, in Harper. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two daughters, Beverly Martin of McPherson, and Amelia Luu, Topeka; two sons, Curtis, Bow, N.H., and Wade, Carlsbad, Calif.; a brother, George, of Lawrence, and five grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care of Kansas, Friends Church, or the Social Services Family Fund in Lancaster, Wisconsin, sent in care of Day Funeral Home & Crematory, 108 S.
