Wilfred Klaus

Funeral services for Wilfred Klaus, 83, Hays, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hays. Burial with military honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Hays. Mr. Klaus died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at the Ellis Good Samaritan Center.He was born April 12, 1924, near Schoenchen, the son of George and Anna Margaret Korbe Klaus. Mr. Klaus served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines and Japan. He retired as a repair technician for the Fort Hays State University power plant. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, American Legion, and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.He married Carolyn “Carol” Gerstner on Oct. 18, 1947, in Pittsburg. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include a son, Mark, O’Fallon, Mo.; two daughters, Donna Harkness, Wichita, and Jean Pfeifer, Lawrence; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Klaus was preceded in death by a son, Arthur Lee, who died in Vietnam in 1969.Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 6 p.m. today, followed by a parish vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Friends also may call from 9:15 a.m. Thursday until the service time at the church.The family suggests memorials to the building fund at the church or to Ellis Good Samaritan Center, sent in care of the funeral home, 1906 Pine St., Hays, KS 67601.
