Esther E. Ellis

Memorial services for Esther E. Ellis, 92, De Soto, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel in De Soto.Mrs. Ellis died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at Olathe Medical Center.She was born April 6, 1915, the daughter of Clarence B. Alvin and Harriet Josesa Osborn Hale. She was a lifetime resident of De Soto.Mrs. Ellis worked for many years at Kobler’s Drug Store in De Soto. She was also a postal clerk at the De Soto Post Office from 1965 until she retired in 1977. She served for 25 years on the board of directors at Gardner Community Medical Center, where she was secretary for 15 years.She was a member of De Soto United Methodist Church and De Soto Order of Eastern Star since 1946, where she was a worthy matron from 1949 to 1950 and district aide from 1950 to 1951.Mrs. Ellis was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil E. Ellis, and her parents.Survivors include a son, Gary Ellis, Eudora; four grandchildren, Susan Jo Ellis Pittman, Kimberly Ann Ellis Davis, Rodney Eugene Ellis and Michael Wayne Nuffer; seven great-grandchildren, William Guy Pittman Jr., Johnathan Lee and Kristy Esther Pittman, Austin Dean and Lindsay Deann Ellis, Cade Alexander Davis and Casey Godwin Wacaser; a great-great-granddaughter, Riley Ellis Pittman; and two goddaughters, Terry Lee Johnston and Paula Tripkos Buckley.The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel before the services.The family suggests memorials to a charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel, 32665 Lexington Avenue, De Soto, KS 66018.
