Colby – Memorial services for Alfred Lowenthal Jr., 83, Colby, were Saturday at Colby United Methodist Church. Burial was in Oakley Cemetery in Oakley.Mr. Lowenthal died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, in Lawrence.He was born Dec. 14, 1924, in New Haven, Conn., the son of Alfred and Gladys Eleanor Hedberg Lowenthal.He was educated in East Haven public schools and inducted into the U.S. Army Air Force on Jan. 9, 1943.He farmed in Thomas County and for more than 45 years served in various capacities in agriculture-related organizations at both the local and state levels. Because of his experience as a pioneer irrigator in northwestern Kansas, he was appointed to the Kansas Geological Survey Advisory Council of Kansas University. He served two terms.He married Ruth Marie Hueftle on Aug. 1, 1946, in Hays. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Deb Teeter and husband Ron, Lawrence; three sons, Richard and wife Kathy, Scott City, David and wife Barbara, Lawrence, and Jeffrey, Carrollton, Texas; a twin sister, Eleanor Jane Lowenthal Fasse, Lexington, Neb.; six grandchildren, including Jackie and husband Toby, Lawrence, and Todd Isaac, Lawrence; and great-grandchildren Taylor and Katelyn Lowenthal, Lawrence.The family suggests memorials to the Ruth Lowenthal Scholarship Fund at Colby Community College, Colby United Methodist Church, or the Al Lowenthal Scholarship Fund at Kansas University, sent in care of Harrison Chapel, P.O.
