Geneva G. Herndon 1920 - 2008 Lawrence
Memorial services for Geneva G. Herndon, 87, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Lawrence. Graveside inurnment services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Ten Mile Baptist Church near Benton, Ark. Mrs. Herndon died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.She was born Aug. 19, 1920, in Hollis, Ark., the daughter of John Wilson Magie and Harriett Lee Godwin Magie. She graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1939. In addition to living in Hot Springs, Ark., she was a resident of Little Rock, Ark., for 44 years. She moved to Lawrence in 2001.Mrs. Herndon was a member of First Baptist Church in Lawrence, Calvary Baptist Church in Little Rock and Park Place Baptist Church in Hot Springs. She also was a longtime member of the Women's Missionary Union in both Hot Springs and Little Rock.She married Royce J. Herndon, also of Hot Springs, in 1939. He died in 1988.Survivors include four sons, R. Wayne Herndon, Camas, Wash., Kenneth E. Herndon, Houston, James D. Herndon, Avon, Ind., and Tim A. Herndon, Lawrence; three granddaughters, Martha, Rinny and Ivy; and two great-grandsons, Eamon and Eliot.A memorial gathering at the Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs will follow the graveside inurnment service on Friday.The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church in Lawrence, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
