Walter F. McConnell Jr.

Services for Walter F. McConnell Jr., 71, McLouth, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at McLouth First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in McLouth Cemetery.Mr. McConnell died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at his home.He was born Feb. 13, 1936, in Shreveport, La., the son of Walter Francis McConnell Sr. and Virginia Mary Gillatt. He graduated from high school and received several bachelor’s degrees. Mr. McConnell served in the U.S. Army and the Army National Guard. He taught screen printing at Fort Leavenworth for many years and also worked as a fleet sales manager at Laird Noller for 15 years. He was a member of the McLouth First Baptist Church and former member of Christian Grove Church, Nortonville.He married Darline Delores Williams on May 20, 1955, in Kansas City, Kan. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Jack D., Nortonville, and Rick A., Leavenworth; two daughters, Vickie Lash, McLouth, and Deana Kneen, Nortonville; two brothers, Wayne, Pleasant Hill, Mo., and Frank; three sisters, Marge Borchardt, Johnson County, Ruth Hawes, Raytown, Mo., and Joyce Smith, Grayson, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.Mr. McConnell was preceded in death by a son, James R., on June 23, 1998.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.The family suggests memorials to Heart of America Hospice or the American Cancer Association, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O.
