Funeral services for Donald M. Luther, 81, De Soto, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence. Mr. Luther died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at Hillside Village in De Soto.He was born Nov. 18, 1926, in Edwardsville, the son of William and Ethel Allen Luther.Mr. Luther served in the U.S. Army as a private during the Korean War. He was a welder and mechanic, working for Allison Manufacturing in Olathe, Southwest Ornamental Iron in Bonner Springs and Sunflower Ammunition Plant. He was a member of the Pipe-fitters Association. He enjoyed playing the harmonica, fishing, picking mushrooms and was an avid pool player.Survivors include three daughters, Sandy Elms and husband Charlie, Lawrence, Donna “Tweet” Manker and husband Greg, Baldwin City, and Kathy Mallonee and husband Harold, Lawrence; three sons, Jerry and wife Joy, Lecompton, Randy, Eudora, and Steven E., Pomona; a sister, Audrey England, Lawrence; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by two daughters, Janice Blackman and Lita Bateson; and two brothers, Wayne and Francis.The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary.The family suggests memorials to the National Kidney Foundation, sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at www.warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Luther.
