Dean Austin Englebrecht 1923 - 2008 Lawrence

Funeral services for Dean Austin Englebrecht, 84, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14.Mr. Englebrecht died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born Sept. 13, 1923, in Woodson County, the son of Ralph P. and Clyta Mark Englebrecht. He moved to Lawrence in 1958.Mr. Englebrecht was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and served during World War II. He was a member of the 1st Reconnaissance Division and served in the Pacific Theater. Before moving to Lawrence he ranched and farmed in Yates Center. In Lawrence he worked as a carpenter for Ole Stinson Construction and later owned Englebrecht Construction Co.Mr. Englebrecht was a member of First Christian Church. He and his wife were members of the Douglas County Square Dance Group during the 1960s and 1970s. He was an avid history enthusiast.He married Mardell J. Culbertson on Sept. 25, 1949, in Yates Center. She died April 22, 2006.Survivors include two daughters, Jane Phelps and husband Chris, Lawrence, and Dee Chaffin and husband Tom, Olathe; a sister, Lois M.
