Rita Lee Lucas Wilkinson

Funeral services for Rita Lee Lucas Wilkinson, 71, Lecompton, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.Mrs. Lucas Wilkinson died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.She was born Jan. 18, 1937, in Galva, Ill., the daughter of Culter and Lula Griffith Thomson. She was a valedictorian of Galesburgh High School. She received degrees from the University of Illinois, where she received honors from Phi Beta Kappa; Oklahoma University and Kansas University. She also received an occupational therapy degree in 1980.Mrs. Lucas Wilkinson worked as a librarian in various locations, including Kansas University from 1962 to 1966. She worked in the Lawrence area in home health care until 1997. She was active in community, church and school activities in the 1970s and 1980s. She helped organize the Lawrence Alternative High School and was active at Plymouth Congregational Church. She served many years on the campus ministry board for Ecumenical Christian Ministries. Mrs. Lucas Wilkinson was active in study groups concerning alternative medicines and concepts of consciousness and the Lawrence area Subtle Energy and Energy Medicine study group for many years after she retired. She most recently volunteered for Tax-Aide with AARP.She married Donald H. Lucas on Sept. 1, 1957. He died in November 1993. She married Donald Wilkinson in January 2005. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include three sons, Warren, Roswell, Ga.; Kurt, Valley Falls, and Scott, Wichita; a brother, Larry Thomson, Green Valley, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren.
