John F. Sanders

Services for John F. Sanders, 73, Topeka, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Burial with military honors by Whiteman Air Force Base will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery in Topeka. Mr. Sanders died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at a Topeka hospital.He was born Feb. 2, 1934, in Hannibal, Mo., the son of Byron C. and Georgiana Cann Sanders. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1960. Mr. Sanders served in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for more than 30 years in the Certified Public Accounting field. He retired as a partner with the firm of Grant Thornton in 1986. He then worked as a treasurer of the Kansas University Alumni Association and retired in 1999. He was a member of the Kansas Society of CPAs, where he had served as president, Topeka Chamber of Commerce and St. John’s Lutheran Church. He married Erma R. Kleinsorge on June 12, 1960, in Hannibal. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Deborah A. Goforth and husband Clay, Topeka; a son, John S., Topeka; and three granddaughters, Chelsi, Christa and Kacie.Friends may call after noon Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.The family suggests memorials to the Kansas State University Cancer Center, 1 Chalmers Hall, Manhattan, KS 66506.
