David McCord Lines

Oskaloosa — Funeral services for David McCord Lines, 83, Perry, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery at Newman. Mr. Lines died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in Topeka. He was born Feb. 1, 1925, in Cherokee, Okla., the son of William Riley Sr. and Carrie Ethel McCord Lines. He was a graduate of Cherokee High School and attended Northwest Oklahoma Teachers College. He had lived in the Newman community, west of Perry, since 1975.Mr. Lines was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the South Pacific during World War II, from 1942 to 1946, and also during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was the chief building inspector for the city of Topeka, retiring in 1987. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 142 and St. Theresa Catholic Church, both in Perry. He married Jerree Perkins in September 1945 in San Francisco. They later divorced. He married Helen K. Gantz Quinlan on Feb. 14, 1975, in Topeka. She preceded him in death Aug. 13, 2007. Survivors include a son, Dennis, Topeka; two daughters, Nancy Lines, Topeka, and Dawn Lines, Auburn; a stepdaughter, Patsy Morse and husband Al, Perry; a brother, William R. “Dub” Jr., Guymon, Okla.; a sister, Lena Mae Fuller, Topeka; two grandchildren, Shannon DeVader and Jason Lines; a stepgrandson, Richard Parnell; and two stepgreat-granddaughters, Alex and Kate Parnell.The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Friday prior to services at the funeral home.
