William Glanville “Bill” Deel

Baldwin City — Funeral services for William Glanville “Bill” Deel, 89, Baldwin City, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Baldwin City.Mr. Deel died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.He was born June 2, 1919, in Baldwin City, the son of Samuel Asher and Mary Glanville Gill Deel. He graduated from Baldwin High School in 1937 and from Baker University in 1942. He was a member of Zeta Chi Fraternity.Mr. Deel worked at an airplane factory in Kansas City until he and his wife moved to Baldwin City and purchased Corner Café and later Deel Café. He worked at Olathe Air Base as a chef, sold insurance for Mutual of Omaha, and then worked for Kansas State Employment Office until he retired in 1982.He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City, Masonic Lodge Palmyra No. 23 and the Rotary Club. He enjoyed gardening and golfing.He married Betty Jean Coleman on July 18, 1942, in Olathe. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include four sons, James and wife Ronda, Cincinnati, Sam and wife Margy, Northfield, Minn., Bill and wife Kathy, Lawrence, and Roy and wife Connie, Baldwin City; a sister, Dorothy Barnthouse, Baldwin City; five grandchildren, Sarah Deel-Fox and David, Chapin, Nathan, and Mattie Deel; and two great-grandchildren, Katie and Elliot Fox-Deel.He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Susan Deel-Bryan and Jeffery L. Deel.Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
