Daniel Morrow

Topeka — Funeral services for Daniel Morrow, 61, Topeka, will be at 1 p.m. today at Newcomer Funeral Home, Topeka. The casket will remain closed. Private burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.Mr. Morrow died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at Midland Hospice House.He was born Sept. 13, 1947, in Emporia, the son of James E. and Odessa E. Commeree Morrow. He was raised in Kansas City, Kan.Mr. Morrow attended Kansas State University before serving his country in Vietnam. After his military service, he was employed as a firefighter in Lawrence, where he became a battalion chief for Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical. He retired in 2002 after more than 30 years of service. After retiring, Mr. Morrow graduated from Washburn University where he majored in history and anthropology. While attending Washburn, he also studied in Cambridge, England, and in Ireland and Mexico. He participated in several archaeological digs. He enjoyed politics, genealogy, learning new technologies and traveling throughout the United States.Survivors include his companion of many years, Phyllis Hoffman; four sons, Daniel M. and Jonathan, both of Baldwin City, and Andy Putnam and Shannon Hoffman, both of Topeka; three sisters, Vada Ann Robinson, of Newport, Ore., Kathryn Finch, of Olathe, and Karen Hensley and husband Hollis, of Peculiar, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.His was preceded in death by his parents.The family suggests memorials to The Melanoma Research Foundation, 170 Township Line Road, Bldg.
