Anthony James “A.J.” Black

Funeral services for Anthony James “AJ” Black, 19, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence. Mr. Black died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at his home following a nine-month battle with aplastic anemia. He was born Dec. 14, 1989, in Lawrence, the son of Jim and Debra R. Meyer Black. He graduated from Free State High School in May 2008. He was enrolled at Kansas University. He was an employee at BC&R Storage Inc. in Lawrence. He formerly worked at the Hy-Vee store on Clinton Parkway in the dairy and frozen foods departments. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was involved in Trinity Lutheran Youth Group and DECA Club at Free State. Survivors include his parents, Lawrence; two sisters, Sheila K. Gonser and husband Nathaniel S., Fargo, N.D., and Lindsay R. Black, Yosemite, Calif.; his maternal grandfather, Milton A. Meyer, Smith Center; his paternal grandmother, Marge Black, Lawrence; and a niece, Katelyn Gonser.The family will meet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in the Fellowship Hall.The family suggests memorials to Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation or the Trinity Lutheran Youth Group, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at warrenmcelwain. com, subject: Black
