Charles Robert “Bob” Snow

Graveside services for Charles Robert “Bob” Snow, 87, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery.Mr. Snow died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at his home.He was born May 14, 1921, in Lawrence, the son of Charlie and June Snow.Mr. Snow was a veteran of World War II. After the war he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a brakeman, then for the Lawrence Fire Department. He then worked for 35 years at the FMC chemical plant in North Lawrence. Mr. Snow owned and operated a large garden at his home in North Lawrence, which was known for rhubarb, strawberries and tomatoes. He helped start the free Christmas dinner at the Flamingo Club for families alone on the holiday. After he retired he rode a bicycle 9 miles a day in North Lawrence and was also known as the “mayor of North Lawrence.”He married Margaret Hammig July 16, 1942. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a daughter, Janice L. Prager; four grandchildren, James Prager, Joseph Dean Snow, Amy Franklin and Charlie R. Snow III; and six great-grandchildren, Montana, Madison, Kiley, Joseph, Zane and Taylor.A son, Chuck, preceded him in death in an automobile accident at age 18.Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at www.rumsey-yost.com.
