Edwin C. Hartzler

Funeral services for Edwin C. “Ed” Hartzler, 71, Clinton, will be at 10 a.m. today at Clinton United Methodist Church, with Dr. David Maggi officiating. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville, Mo.Mr. Hartzler died Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton.He was born April 16, 1937, in Harrisonville, the son of Clarence Samuel and Garnett May Starks Hartzler. He graduated from Harrisonville High School in 1955. He attended Missouri Valley College, the University of Missouri-Columbia and graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in 1983.Mr. Hartzler was chief executive officer of Boatman’s Bank, now Bank of America, in Belton, Mo., for 30 years. He retired in September 1992 and served for 10 years as a state representative for Missouri’s 123rd District.He was a member of Clinton United Methodist Church and a former member of the Crossroads United Methodist Church of Belton. He was also a member of the Clinton Rotary Club, a Sapphire Paul Harris Fellow, and a former member of the Belton-Raymore Rotary Club.Mr. Hartzler was a board member of the Lions Club, Rotary Club, Belton Chamber of Commerce, Belton Research Hospital Foundation, Foxwood Springs Living Center, Richards-Gebauer Base Community Council and was on the advisory board for Missouri Public Service.He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching sports, playing golf, fishing, reading, traveling, boating and his lake house.Mr. Hartzler married Mary Ann Appel on Aug. 1, 1959, in Marshall, Mo. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, David A. and wife Lorinda, Lawrence, Kan.; a daughter, Diana Lynn Hartzler, Shawnee, Kan.; three grandchildren, Harrison, Summer and Hannah Hartzler; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Eberhardt and husband David, Riverwoods, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Keith and Willis; and two sisters, Mary Lee Roach and Kathryn Mayberry.The family suggests memorials to Clinton United Methodist Church, the Samaritan Center of Clinton or Crossroads United Methodist Church of Belton, sent in care of Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, 1410 E.
