Services for Janet M. Lashbrook, 80, Bonner Springs, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs. Inurnment will follow in Bonner Springs Cemetery.Mrs. Lashbrook died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at Olathe Medical Center.She was born March 20, 1928, in Faribault, Minn., the daughter of Margaret and Ted Scott. She graduated from Faribault High School and the University of Minnesota. She later attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C., receiving her master’s degree in education.Mrs. Lashbrook worked as an art educator for the public school system in Fairfax County, Va.She was a charter member of Garfield Memorial Christian Church of McLean, Va., and more recently a member of First Christian Church in Bonner Springs. She was a member of the chancel choirs at both churches. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence.Mrs. Lashbrook enjoyed music, theater, travel and reading. After losing her sight in 2002, she became an avid talking book and audio reader patron as well as a devoted listener to “A Prairie Home Companion.”Survivors include a son, Roy Lashbrook and wife Janey, of the home; two grandsons, Lee S. and Seth G. Lashbrook; and a niece, Amy Scott.She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, James Scott, in 1995 and her husband of 50 years, Lowell S. Lashbrook, in 2004.The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service hour on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to the Animal Haven, Operation Wildlife or Kansas Public Radio, sent in care of the funeral home, 214 Oak St., Bonner Springs, KS 66012.
