Rose K. O’Neill

Funeral services for Rose K. O’Neill, 86, Winchester, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Winchester Reformed Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at the Reformed Presbyterian Cemetery.Mrs. O’Neill died Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at her home in Winchester.She was born Jan. 7, 1922, at Boyle, the daughter of Ross B. and Lola Sloop Keys. She graduated from Winchester Rural High School in 1939.Mrs. O’Neill was a homemaker and had also worked in medical records at the Jefferson County Memorial Hospital. She also helped her husband farm and raise livestock, and tested dairy cows for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association.She was a lifetime member of the Winchester Reformed Presbyterian Church and had served as the national president of the Reformed Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Fellowship. She was active in many community and county organizations.She coached the Winchester High School girls basketball team for two years and was a state and local officer of the Young Women’s Christian Association.She married John T. O’Neill on March 5, 1940, at Winchester. He died Sept. 4, 2007.Survivors include a son, Jerry O’Neill, Pittsburgh; three daughters, Linda Henry, Vadnais Heights, Minn., Bonnie Meyer, Palatine, Ill., and Rita Lyon, Winchester; a sister, Edith Duguid, Winchester; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Monday at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls, and from 9 a.m. until the service hour Tuesday at the church.The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the O’Neill farmstead, now the home of Rita Lyon, 14431 Saline Road, Winchester.The family suggests memorials to the Jefferson County Memorial Hospital or to the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary, sent in care of the funeral home, 810 Broadway, Valley Falls, KS 66088.Online condolences may be sent at www.mercerfuneralhomes.com.
