Wilbur W. “Bill” Schmidt

Graveside services for Wilbur W. “Bill” Schmidt, 76, of Kansas City, Mo., will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the McLouth Cemetery.The casket will remain closed.Mr. Schmidt died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at the Kansas City Hospice House.He was born Oct. 8, 1931, in Philadelphia, the son of Wilbur R. and Jane Kaul Schmidt. He grew up in McLouth and was a 1949 graduate of McLouth High School. He attended Kansas University and earned a bachelor’s degree in business in 1953. Mr. Schmidt served in the U.S. Army for two years and returned to KU to earn his law degree in 1958. He worked in the trust department of UMB Bank in Kansas City for 35 years, retiring in 1994 as a senior vice president. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity at KU and a member of the McLouth United Methodist Church. Survivors include a sister, Betty Jane Lavenbarg and husband Al, Belton, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Ellen Schmidt, Liberty, Mo.; two nieces, Stephanie Mears and Rachelle Pitts; and a nephew, Wade Lavenbarg.He was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip.The family suggests memorials to St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation, 4225 Baltimore Ave., Kansas City, MO 64111 or to the McLouth United Methodist Church, P.O.
