Timothy Notah

Funeral services for Timothy Notah, 82, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Notah Family Cemetery in Hunter’s Point, Ariz. Mr. Notah died Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born Aug. 25, 1925, in Hunter’s Point, Ariz., the son of Tsehe and Julia Trujillo Notah. He moved to Lawrence in 1948, where he attended Haskell Institute. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in industrial arts from Pittsburg State University.Mr. Notah served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He was employed with many local painting contractors in the 1950s and was hired as a painting contractor for Haskell Institute in 1958. He worked at Haskell Indian Junior College as an instructor of painting and decorating from 1970 until he retired in 1989. He was affiliated with Antioch Southern Baptist Church in Lawrence.He married Bette Jackson in June 1950 in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a daughter, Jeanette Byington, Lawrence; four brothers, Kenneth, Albuquerque, N.M., Sam, Bartlesville, Okla., and Bobby and Thomas, both of Hunter’s Point, Ariz.; two sisters, Anna Sanderson and Esther Dawes, both of Hunter’s Point, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Kristen and Steven Byington; and a great-grandson, Ethan Byington. Mr. Notah was preceded in death by three brothers.The family will receive friends from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at www.warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Notah.
