Wilbur L. Ray 1918 - 2008 Lawrence
Graveside services for Wilbur L. Ray, 90, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Reformed Presbyterian Cemetery in Winchester.Mr. Ray died Friday, April 25, 2008, at Hickory Pointe Care Center in Oskaloosa.He was born Feb. 1, 1918, in Oskaloosa, the son of Benjamin Harrison and Margaret Hartman Ray.Mr. Ray was a glass installer for Kennedy Glass Co. and worked at the James Radiator Shop, both in Lawrence. He was also a custodian at the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence.Mr. Ray was married to Evelyn Smith; they later divorced. He then married Meredith P. Tate, who died on Sept. 8, 1986.Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Lemon, Bonner Springs, Beverly Craig, Sharon Guthrie and Carolyn Ray, all of Lawrence; one brother, Alfred, Topeka; one sister, Hazel Coffman, Ottawa; 24 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.He was preceded in death by four sons, David, Eldon, Steven and Robert; one daughter, Meredith Ann Norcross; four grandchildren; three brothers, Johnny, Melvin and Howard; and a sister, Dorothy Higgins.Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.The family suggests memorials to Jefferson County Hospice, in care of the funeral home, P.O.
