Edgar Ervin “Ed” Lewis

Graveside entombment services with military honors for Edgar Ervin “Ed” Lewis, 81, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. today at Memorial Park Mausoleum.Mr. Lewis died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at his home.He was born March 31, 1927, in Fitchburg, Mass., the son of Achel and Ruth Jordan Lewis. He completed his high school education during World War II while serving in the U.S. Army and Air Force. He moved to Eudora in 1992 and then to Lawrence in 2006. Mr. Lewis worked on guided missiles and assisted with troop deployment at the Berlin Wall while serving in the military. He was a master electrician. He owned an electronics repair business and did contract work for major corporations. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Eudora and American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 in Lawrence. He drove a bus for Douglas County Senior Services for 15 years. He enjoyed singing at senior meal sites, churches and nursing homes.He married Roberta A. Chilcote on Dec. 14, 1979, in San Diego. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Brian, Lowell, Mass.; a daughter, Susan Lewis, North Chelmsford, Mass.; a stepson, Russell Hewitt, San Diego; two stepdaughters, Debra Hewitt and Cheryl Hewitt, both of Grantville; eight grandchildren, Timothy, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Melissa, Timberly, Robyn, Justin and Kenny; and a great-grandson, Sean.The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or Hospice Care in Douglas County, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.Online condolences may be sent at www.rumsey-yost.com.
