Thomas E. “Tom” Vining

Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas E. “Tom” Vining, 66, Meriden, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Meriden. Graveside services with American Legion honors will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka. Mr. Vining died Monday, April 14, 2008, at his home.He was born Oct. 13, 1941, in Topeka, the son of Charles Benjamin and Mary Jean Stone Vining. He was a 1959 graduate of Highland Park High School. He lived in Meriden for 30 years.Mr. Vining served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1960 to 1966. He worked at Goodyear Tire Co. in Topeka for 43 years and retired in 2006. He was a member of United Steel Workers Local 307 in Topeka and St. Aloysius Church and Knights of Columbus, both of Meriden. He was a member of American Legion Post 225 in Ozawkie. He married Mickey Linn Gleason on May 10, 1966, in Newkirk, Okla. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include his stepmother, Geraldine M. Vining, Delta, Colo.; two sons, Daniel C. and Brian J. Vining, both of Meriden; two daughters, Kimberly S. Vining Martin, Lawrence, and Ashley L. Vining, Tallahassee, Fla.; a brother, Charles D., Plano, Texas; two sisters, Jean Rogers, Topeka, and Laura Beth Fletcher, Montrose, Colo.; and a grandson.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday.
