Dr. Eugene T. “Gene” Siler

Funeral services for Dr. Eugene T. “Gene” Siler, 84, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Graveside services with military honors will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.Dr. Siler died Sunday, April 13, 2008, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community. He was born March 19, 1924, in Atchison, the son of Leo J. and Jesse Thomas Siler. He graduated from Kansas University in 1947 and the KU School of Medicine in 1952. He later graduated from the University of Denver School of Ophthalmology and was a member of Sigma Chi social fraternity. He moved from Hays to Lawrence in 1992. Dr. Siler was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was an ophthalmologist in Hays and retired in 1989. He was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed camping and golfing. He married Jeanie Morrow Boomhower on Nov. 27, 1976, in Wichita. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include a son, Thomas M., St. Charles, Mo.; two daughters, Sue Sager, Lenexa, and Mary Burke, North Bend, Ore.; two stepdaughters, Cheryl Commerford, Prairie Village, and Kristi Mills, Pismo Beach, Calif.; a sister, Connie Tabor, Hays; six grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
