Ida Eleanor Wahwahsuck

Kennekuk Church services for Ida Eleanor Wahwahsuck, 97, Lawrence, will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Kickapoo Community Building west of Horton. Burial will be Monday in Kennekuk Indian Cemetery on the Kickapoo Reservation west of Horton.Mrs. Wahwahsuck died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at her home.She was born Oct. 17, 1910, on the Indian Reservation at Fort Hall, Idaho, the daughter of Jacob and Jeannette Jackson Browning. She attended dormitory and public schools in Riverside, Calif. She also attended Haskell Institute in Lawrence.Mrs. Wahwahsuck was a homemaker and machine operator during World War II at Hercules Powder Plant in De Soto. She was a member of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribe of Fort Hall, Idaho. She attended the Kennekuk Church and was a former member of the Episcopal Church in Lawrence. She enjoyed Pow-Wows, dancing, bead working, handicrafts and traveling.She married Roscoe Wahwahsuck in 1945 in Kansas City, Mo. He died in 2000.Mrs. Wahwahsuck was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Wahwahsuck, in 2001; a grandson, Silas, in 2006; a great-granddaughter, Cheyenna Wahwahsuck, in 1994; and a brother, Roosevelt Browning.Survivors include a daughter, Jeannette Wahwahsuck, Lawrence; a son, DuWayne Wahwahsuck, Lawrence; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. today at Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton.
