Jeanette Montell Powell

Graveside services for Jeanette Montell Powell, 81, Guymon, Okla., will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Hooker Cemetery with Mike Nixon of the Perryton, Texas, congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses officiating.Mrs. Powell died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Dunaway Manor in Guymon, Okla.She was born Aug. 19, 1926, in Alamo, Texas, the daughter of Ralph and Georgia Uttinger Montell. She grew up in Lawrence, Kan., and lived in northeast Kansas. She lived briefly in the Oklahoma Panhandle and moved to northern Idaho in the late 1940s. She then moved to Hooker in 1966 and later to Guymon, Okla., in 1991.Mrs. Powell studied the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses during the early 1950s and was baptized in 1952. She enjoyed her home and needlework.She married Jerry B. Powell in 1941. They shared 60 years of marriage. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Powell was also preceded in death by her parents.Survivors include a sister, Helen Best and husband Warren, Lawrence; two sons, Charles Powell and wife Mary, Guymon, Okla., and Bill Powell and wife Bonnie, Hooker; two daughters, Willa Weis and husband James and Phyllis Diederich, both of Hooker; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a niece.Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home in Guymon, Okla., is in charge of arrangements.
