D. "Mildred" Butler 1906 - 2008 Oskaloosa

Funeral services for D. "Mildred" Butler, 101, Oskaloosa, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Oskaloosa United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Riley Cemetery in Riley.Mrs. Butler died Monday, March 31, 2008, at Jefferson County Geriatric Center in Winchester. She was born July 20, 1906, in Kiowa County, the daughter of Bret Harte and Anna Mae Crebs Isham. She lived in Oskaloosa for 30 years.She graduated from Haviland High School in 1923 and received a teaching certificate from Hays Teachers College.Mrs. Butler was a homemaker and farm wife for many years. She taught school in one-room schoolhouses in rural Kansas. She was a member of Oskaloosa United Methodist Church.She married Lester D. Butler on May 11, 1938, in Keats. He died in 1968.Mrs. Butler was also preceded in death by an infant son, William Harte Butler; a daughter, Doris Berger; and three grandchildren.Survivors include two daughters, Mary Francis, Ironton, Mo., and Jo Cross, Oskaloosa; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.
