Lyman Theodore “Ted” Wiley III

Memorial services for Lyman Theodore “Ted” Wiley III, 62, Lawrence, will be at a later date at Cottonwood Inc.Mr. Wiley died Saturday, March 29, 2008, at his home.He was born Aug. 1, 1945, in Lawrence, the son of Lyman T. and Bryona Pence Wiley. Mr. Wiley was a client at Cottonwood since 1972 and was an original participant in the Bess Stone program as a young man. He was involved in Cottonwood’s community employment division, JobLink, and worked at local businesses for many years, including Johnson Furniture, Fifi’s and Sweet Grass restaurants, and Hy-Vee on Clinton Parkway. He most recently worked in the production of cargo tie-down straps at Cottonwood’s Work Services division, Cottonwood Industries. He was an advocate for people with developmental disabilities through his volunteer efforts with Cottonwood. He also volunteered with ARC of Douglas County, Self Advocates of Kansas and Self Advocates of Lawrence, and he was active in the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s Special Populations Division. He was a frequent speaker for the Kansas University School of Social Welfare.Survivors include his father, Lawrence; a sister, Teri Wiley, Lawrence; two nephews, Tony and Dean Manwaring; a niece, Kacy Manwaring; and all his friends at Cottonwood.Mr. Wiley was preceded in death by his mother, Bryona, in 2003.The family suggests memorials to the Cottonwood Foundation, sent in care of Peggy Wallert, 2801 W. 31st St., Lawrence, KS 66047 or Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.Online condolences may be sent at www.rumsey-yost.com.
