Loren R. Pine

Memorial services for Loren R. Pine, 92, Lawrence, were Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. A second memorial service will be Friday in Lyons at First United Methodist Church.Mr. Pine died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at Harbor House in Lawrence.He was born Aug. 9, 1915, in North Lawrence, the son of Roscoe and Katie May Pine. He graduated from Lawrence High School and attended Chilicothe Business College, where he studied bookkeeping.Mr. Pine served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed in Guam. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He worked at John Deere in Lyons before he enlisted. He then worked for the U.S. Post Office. He became a postmaster in 1971 and retired in 1976.He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lyons, Methodist Men and the Lyons Town and Country Club. He participated in the senior space program at the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson. He received a private pilot’s license after World War II. He also enjoyed playing golf.Mr. Pine married Helen Kampschroeder on Nov. 27, 1937. She died in 1996.Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Dulny, Lenexa; two grandsons, Brad and Brett Dulny; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Velma Skinner, Lawrence; a sister-in-law, Irene Eden, Lawrence; and many friends in Lyons.The family suggests memorials to Harbor House in care of Kitty Shea, 1126 Hilltop Drive, Lawrence 66044.
