Edward W. “Ed” Sewell

Memorial services for Edward W. “Ed” Sewell, 81, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn.Mr. Sewell died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.He was born April 26, 1926, in Minneapolis, Minn., the son of Edward J. and Agnes Faber Sewell. He received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in art education, both from the University of Minnesota. He moved from Minneapolis to Lawrence 12 years ago.Mr. Sewell was a retired teacher and coach in Michigan and Minnesota. He taught high school art and coached basketball, tennis and several other sports.He married Patricia Campbell in August 1954 in Minneapolis. She died in February 1989. He married Nita Wyatt Sundbye on Nov. 7, 1998, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include four daughters, Sheila Sewell, Omaha, Neb., Jane Carnes, Duluth, Minn., Katie Sewell, Minneapolis, Minn., and Joanne Santa Cruz, New York; two sons, Shawn, Minneapolis, Minn., and Andrew J., Palo Alto, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church in Lawrence or a charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.Online condolence may be sent at www.warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Sewell.
