Harold J. “Bud” Payne

Memorial services for Harold J. “Bud” Payne, 84, Baldwin City, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ives Chapel Church in Baldwin City.Mr. Payne died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007, in Baldwin City.He was born March 18, 1923, in Elwood, Ind., the son of Cecil Payne and Frances Boskey Payne Jensen. He was raised in Chicago and attended Chicago public schools. He lived in Salt Lake City for 13 years and moved to the San Francisco area in 1960, where he lived for 10 years before he moved to Quakertown, Pa.Mr. Payne served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in Italy with the 344th Bomb Squadron. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Salt Lake City and then as a salesman in the San Francisco area. He worked for American Fast Foods in Quakertown, Pa., and was food service/student union director at Baker University for nine years. He managed Orchard Lane Apartments for seven years after he retired.He was a member and pillar of Center of Spiritual Living Church in Kansas City, Mo., where he served on the board of trustees.He married Janet Stouppe in September 1961 in San Leandro, Calif. She survives.Other survivors include three sons, Thomas H. Oviatt, Lebanon, Mo., Michael E., Bad Neustadt, Germany, and Matthew C., St. Charles, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
