Funeral services for Melissa Beth "Spike" Evans, 21, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church in Topeka. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka.Miss Evans died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at Kansas University Hospital as a result of injuries suffered in a vehicle accident caused by weather conditions.She was born Sept. 19, 1985, in Amarillo, Texas, the daughter of Donald E. and Coralee Wilson Evans. She graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 2003 and received two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Latin American studies and history from KU in 2007.Miss Evans was a member of campus organizations, including Latin American Solidarity, where she was president in the spring of 2007, and Alternative Spring Break in Nicaragua in March 2007. She studied in Costa Rica from January to July of 2006 and traveled extensively in Latin America. She was also active in the Fair Trade Movement and Delta Force at KU. She was a lifelong dancer from age 3 and participated with Dance Factory for many years, where she was awarded the Quinn Dauphin Memorial Scholarship in 2003.
