Wesley Hale

Graveside services with military honors for Wesley Hale, 64, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Richland Cemetery in Richland.He died Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at his home.He was born Aug. 14, 1943, in Alton, Mo., the son of Amos V. and Frances Smith Hale. He grew up in Eudora, where he attended school.Mr. Hale served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1964 and was a firefighter for the Lawrence Fire Department for 30 years. He also worked for Broyles Texaco and was a lifelong farmer. He worked construction building pole barns. Mr. Hale was an avid hunter and a member of the American Simmental Association.He married Iris Downing on Jan. 20, 1970, in Miami, Okla. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, John, Lawrence; a daughter, Gaila Shogrin, Ottawa; three sisters Kay Bryant, Oskaloosa, and Jeanette Ray and Joyce Bledsoe, both of Lawrence; two brothers, Harold, Ozawkie, Nathan, Greenleaf, Idaho; and seven grandchildren.Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will greet them from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.The family suggests memorials to Douglas County 4-H, sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent to
