Samuel Clyde Mumford 1917 - 2007

Funeral services for Samuel Clyde Mumford, 90, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Ninth Street Baptist Church in Lawrence. Burial with military honors will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Mumford died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at Ottawa Retirement Village. He was born May 23, 1917, in Lawrence, the son of Robert and Louise Jenkins Mumford.He was an Army Air Forces veteran, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. Mr. Mumford was a maintenance engineer for Kansas University, where he retired in 1976. He was a member of Ninth Street Baptist Church. He married Jean L. Burch on Feb. 13, 1945, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Michael Eugene, Lawrence.One son, Samuel R. Mumford, died Feb. 14, 2001.The family will greet friends from noon until the service time Friday at the church.Warren-McElwain Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
