Melvin L. Racy 1949 - 2007 Abilene
Mass of Christian Burial for Melvin L. Racy, 64, Abilene, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Abilene. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Abilene.Mr. Racy died Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at Memorial Hospital in Abilene.He was born July 24, 1943, in West Mineral, the son of John W. and Mary Brynds Racy. He grew up in the Lawrence area and attended local schools, graduating from Lawrence High School. He attended Pittsburg State College.He was in the car business for 40 years, including 10 years with Green Ford in Abilene. He was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church.Survivors include his wife, Toastie, of the home; two sons, Mike, Fishers, Ind.; and Kip, Memphis, Tenn.; three daughters, RaeLyn Whitehair and Kim Funston, Abilene, and Kelly Jones, Beatrice, Neb.; three brothers, John, Don, and Bill, all of Lawrence; and 13 grandchildren.A parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home.The family suggests memorials to the St. Andrew's School or the Melvin Racy Scholarship Fund, sent in care of the funeral home, 414 NW Third St., Abilene 67410.
