Arnold Runn

Clay Center – Funeral services for Arnold Runn, 82, Clay Center, were Oct. 12 at Neil-Schwensen-Rook Chapel in Clay Center. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center.Mr. Runn died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at Medicalodge in Clay Center.He was born June 22, 1925, near Clay Center, the son of Lars and Catherine Berkquist Runn. He attended schools in Clay County and Clay County Community High School.Mr. Runn served in the U.S. Army as a private during World War II from 1943 to 1945. He served in the Pacific Theater and took part in the invasion of Luzon to liberate the Philippines. He earned the Purple Heart after being wounded in combat by an enemy hand grenade.He farmed in Clay County with his father. He and his brother worked in the dry cleaning business from 1948 to 1955. He then worked as an insurance adjuster in Wichita. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Lions Club and American Legion, all in Clay Center.He married Doris Young in 1946 in Westmoreland. They divorced. He married Betty Brill on March 24, 1951, in Ottawa. She died July 4, 2007.Survivors include a son, Gary and wife Carrie, Florence, Italy; a sister, Linnea Mason and husband Richard, Fairborn, Ohio; a brother, Lawrence and wife Norma, Lawrence; and two grandchildren, Courtney and Travis Runn.
