Helen C. Telfel 1913 - 2007 Topeka
Graveside services for Helen C. Telfel, 94, Topeka, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Lawrence.Mrs. Telfel died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, after a long illness at Autumn Home Plus in Topeka.She was born Oct. 13, 1913, in Menominee, Mich., the daughter of Karen Sophia Sorenson and Peter Christensen. She graduated from Menominee High School in 1930 and attended Jordan College.She married Emil Telfel in 1939. The couple moved to Lawrence in 1946. He preceded her in death in 1958. In 1998, she married Dwight F. Metzler, who preceded her in death in 2001.Mrs. Telfel received her bachelor's degree from Kansas University in 1950.She worked for many years as a secretary with the Division of Sanitation of the Kansas Health Department.Survivors include four stepdaughters, Linda Metzler, Gambier, Ohio, Brenda Metzler, Needham, Mass., Marilyn Metzler, Chapel Hill, N.C., and Martha Metzler, Topeka.The family suggests memorials to the Cat Association of Topeka, 1719 S.W.
