Emily I. Sarna

Funeral services for Emily I. Sarna, 95, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow in Topeka Cemetery. Mrs. Sarna died Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community in Lawrence.She was born April 6, 1912, in Topeka, the daughter of Harlan M. and Clara I. Lawrence Hancock. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Kansas Wesleyan College in Salina in 1934.Mrs. Sarna was a teacher in Claflin, Brookville, Louisville, Wamego and Junction City. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Salina for 50 years. She was also a member of Westside Study Club in Lawrence, Trinity Lutheran Church and a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma honorary teachers’ sorority.She married Willard C. Sarna on June 14, 1936, in Salina. He died Oct. 8, 1989.Survivors include a son, Robert Sarna and wife Ruth, Lawrence; three grandchildren, Tonya Brenn, Tracy Rohr and Matthew Sarna; three stepgrandchildren, Tim and Dan Mueller and Jennifer Alderdice; nine great-grandchildren, Kaitlan, Scotty and Tyler Brenn, Madison, Mason and Makenna Rohr, and Bailey, Maggie and Dylan Sarna; and four stepgreat-grandchildren, Nathan, Austin, Megan and Brendan Mueller.Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
