Arlabel Stewart Hornbaker

Wheat Ridge, Colo. – A memorial service for Arlabel Stewart Hornbaker, 88, Wheat Ridge, Colo., and formerly of Lawrence, Kan., will be today at Wheat Ridge Presbyterian Church. A private burial service took place Friday in Wheat Ridge.Mrs. Hornbaker died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, in Wheat Ridge.She was born Feb. 12, 1919, in Hutchinson, Kan.She earned a Bachelor of Science in music education from Kansas State University and a Master of Science in education from Kansas University. She was a member of Mu Phi Epsilon honorary music fraternity.She married Allison L. Hornbaker on Aug. 28, 1943, in New Haven, Conn.Mrs. Hornbaker held several teaching positions in Lawrence elementary schools, the last in 1971 at Pinckney School, and she was active in music education and volunteer organizations. Mr. Hornbaker led the Mineral Resources Division of the Kansas Geological Survey until 1970. They moved in 1971 to Wheat Ridge, where Mrs. Hornbaker continued her teaching career until her retirement. Mr. Hornbaker was chief of the Mineral Resources Section of the Geological Survey until he retired in 1985. He preceded her in death.Survivors include two daughters, Ann Feinberg, Chicago, and Jean Winters, Boca Raton, Fla.; a son, Tom Hornbaker, Lawrence; a sister, Myrla Havice, Wheat Ridge; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
