Baldwin City – Funeral services for Paula Marie Parker, 73, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Baldwin City. Mrs. Parker died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2007, at Harbor House Memory Care Residence in Lawrence.She was born Oct. 29, 1933, in Ashland, the daughter of Paul R. and Elverta M. Hawley Dick. She attended various elementary schools in Kansas and graduated from Oakley High School in 1951. She received a degree in elementary education from Baker University in 1955. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta social sorority, where she served as president; an editor of the school paper; and a member of Baker University Drama Club and Baker University Choir.Mrs. Parker taught elementary school in Colorado, California and Kansas. She was a member of various PEO Chapters, Grace United Methodist Church in Olathe and the church choir. She served on the Board of Trustees of Baker University from 1997 to 2004. She served on the Alumni Board, and her family was named family of the year by Baker University in 1987.She married Donald E. Parker on Dec. 30, 1956, in Oakley. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include, two daughters, Dana M. Ortiz and husband Leonard and Donna L. Carlson and husband Steve, all of Lawrence; a brother, James P. Dick and wife Jeanne, Rushville, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Alexandra, Emily, Jamie and Nicolas.The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church before the services.The family suggests memorials to Baker University, Harbor House, Heart of America Hospice or the National Alzheimer’s Association, sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at www.warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Parker.
