Naomi Nelson 1914 - 2007 New Castle, Ind.
Memorial services for Naomi Nelson, 93, New Castle, Ind., will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Sunnyside Presbyterian Church in South Bend.Mrs. Nelson died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, in New Castle, Ind.She was born Feb. 7, 1914, the daughter of George and Minnie Hildenbrand. She grew up in the Stull community in Kansas. She graduated from Kansas University in 1936 with a music degree and lived in Watkins Scholarship Hall. She lived in Topeka, Kan., Lawrence, Kan., Beverly, Ky., and was a longtime resident of South Bend. She lived in New Castle since 2003.Mrs. Nelson taught piano lessons to children until 1981. She was a founding member of Chapter BX of the PEO Sisterhood and an active member of the Memorial Hospital Medical Auxiliary, American Association of University Women, Collectors' Clubs, Coquillard Woods Garden Club, Broadway United Methodist Church, Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, Parent Teacher Association of John Adams High School and several book clubs.She married Dr. Raymond E. Nelson in 1936. He died in 1981. She married Donald L. Adair in 1988. He died in 1999.Survivors include a son, Dr. Robert R. Nelson, Honor, Mich.; two daughters, Susan Nelson, Chicago, and Janet Harvey, New Castle; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church before the services.The family suggests memorials to Watkins Scholarship Hall, KU Endowment, P.O.
