Laura Jean Baker Floyd

Funeral services for Laura Jean Baker Floyd, 83, Overbrook, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pomona United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Pomona.Mrs. Floyd died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, at Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook.She was born Nov. 1, 1924, in rural Ottawa, the daughter of Anna Laura Woods and Charles Hamilton. She graduated from Ottawa High School in 1941 and Ottawa University in 1961. She was a lifelong resident of Franklin County.Mrs. Floyd taught grade school for 37 years starting in a one-room school house in Boyd. She spent most of her career with West Franklin Unified School District and retired in 1985. She was a member of the Pomona United Methodist Church, the National Education Association, Past President of the George H. Thomas Circle of the Ladies of Grand Army of Republic and Past Nobel Grand Rebekah Lodge 175.She married John Richard Baker on Jan. 29, 1944. He died in 1987. She married Max Wayne Floyd in 1989. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Neal Baker and wife Nancy, Pomona; two daughters, Carol Webb and husband Marvin, Bettendorf, Iowa, and Marilyn Resner and husband Wally, Ottawa; four stepchildren, Miles Floyd and wife Kathy, Ottawa, Martin Floyd and wife Becky Lowrance Floyd, Lawrence; a stepdaughter-in-law, Linda Floyd, Ottawa; three brothers, Lauren, Overbrook, Newell, Mesa, Ariz., and Gerald Hamilton, Tulsa, Okla.; five grandchildren, John, Adrian, Kathryn, Kevin and Brian; five step-grandchildren, Emily, Stephanie, Cassie, Nick and Robby; and many nieces and nephews.Mrs. Floyd was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Karen; a stepson, Mike Floyd; four brothers, Wilmar, Dean, Allen and Arthur Hamilton; and a stepbrother, Maynard Floyd.The family suggests memorials to Pomona United Methodist Church, sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O.
