Carl Dean Gibson

A memorial service for Carl Dean Gibson, 83, Jewell, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Calvary Bible Evangelical Free Church in Jewell. Graveside services with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.Mr. Gibson died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, after an extended illness.He was born June 16, 1924, in Pratt, the son of Carl A. and Nina Workman Gibson. He was a former resident of Lawrence, and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School. He graduated from Kansas University’s School of Business in 1949 and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He had lived the last 12 years in Jewell.Mr. Gibson served in the Army’s 102nd Infantry Division from 1943 to 1946. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Europe.He married Beverly “Boo” Gaines on May 19, 1946. She survives.Other survivors include three sons, Doug, Waco, Texas, Chuck, Jewell, and John, Topeka; a daughter, Debbie Lee, Four Oaks, N.C.; a brother, Desmond, Lincoln, Neb.; a sister, Marilyn Blincoe, Lodi, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to Calvary Bible Evangelical Free Church Youth Ministry, sent in care of Kleppinger Funeral Home, 409 Broadway, Jewell 66949.
