Windell J. Johnson

Graveside services for Windell J. Johnson, 82, Pittsburg, will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg. A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Crestwood Country Club in Pittsburg.Mr. Johnson died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007, at Mount Carmel Medical Center in Pittsburg.He was born May 13, 1925, in Argonia, the son of Alfred and Maggie Johnson. He graduated from high school in 1943. He graduated from Kansas University in 1951 with a mechanical engineering degree. He was a resident of Lawrence, Augusta, St. Louis, Prairie Village and Pittsburg.Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was active in the Crawford County Genealogical Society. He was an avid golfer at Crestwood Country Club.He married Phyllis A. Jones on March 4, 1950, in Lawrence. She died Jan. 17, 2003.Mr. Johnson was also preceded in death by a brother, Wayne, of Argonia.Survivors include a son, Christopher P. and wife Cora, Joplin, Mo.; a daughter, Susan E. West and husband Mike, Girard; two brothers, Marvin, Minneapolis, Minn., and Martin, Wichita; a sister, Betty Hayes, Oklahoma City; two sisters-in-law, Marian Abegg and Susan McClintic, both of Lawrence; a brother-in-law, Alan Jones, Pioneer, Calif.; and six grandchildren, Aaron, Megan and Nicholas Johnson and Stephanie, Courtney and Tyler West.
